I’m going to teach a new class, next week (yeah, I know, last minute). I have a basic idea of what I will do, but I am also open to any suggestions or ideas. Generally, we will start with some history, and then look at the current state, especially here in Charleston. Among the readings I will be using the book Collective Courage. I also have a local woman that can speak on the recent history and decline of black-owned businesses in Charleston.

Labor secretary: Some gig workers should be ’employees’ with benefits

Posted on

Labor Secretary Marty Walsh said he believes some gig workers should be classified as “employees,” giving them the “safety net” of benefits and certain labor laws.

“We are looking at it, but in a lot of cases gig workers should be classified as employees,” Walsh said. “In some cases they are treated respectfully and in some cases they are not, and I think it has to be consistent across the board.”

Student Consulting for Startups & Corporations — linerun

Posted on

An integral part of our Accelerator program, CoLab Consulting is a dual-track, hybrid learning environment where participants work in groups to assist our brand partner with a specific business need. Projects may include developing a plan to solve an operations issue, develop a business plan or conduct industry research and analysis.

Organized and managed in a virtual classroom style setting, students will be able to understand company needs, organize potential ideas and apply lessons learned from our workshops and in college to deliver valuable insights to our company partners. While you provide meaningful work to your client, you’ll also gain first-hand industry knowledge and the opportunity to “test drive” a potential career track and/or employer in the process. This valuable industry experience is offered in conjunction with the professional development course provided as part of the Accelerator.
